Greg Mckeown, Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less
Don't get bogged down or crushed by Existential Overwhelm. We are blessed to live in a time and a world full of opportunity. That same blessing can feel like a compactor suffocating your soul. What if I never get this chance again? What if this is my true purpose? My next big break? What if I miss out? Instead of FOMO, let's create a little JOMO by focusing our work and our lives to a purpose, deepening our impact and feeling of fulfillment. Enter the power of discernment. OE will share researched theories and provide thoughtful assistance to focus and buy into your vision, discern and cut out the noise, say no the right way, and give yourself a little grace in the process.
How are you charting your course? Do you know the destination? It is ok if you don't. You can start small or start big, but getting clear on your vision will help place vital boundaries along your path.
Triage your opportunities, commitments, and your task list. Cut through the noise to what truly matters. Intentional work and living derives from the understanding that time cannot be bargained, bought, created, or controlled. We must accept real limitations to create space.
Say no the right way. Cut down on your obligations and open up to your opportunities. Challenge yourself to say "no" and make intentional choices, while offering gratitude and conveying empathy. You can have it all, but not all at the same time. It isn't about balance, it is about having freedom and room to make the right choices each and every day.
Maximize your value by putting vigorous energy into select items or issues that matter most. While results vary based on the type of job, studies indicate that adding more working hours past a certain point, the point of diminishing returns, has a minimal effect on performance. Additional working hours past this point can actually have a negative impact, harming performance.
